You are an exception to that general practice and it's probably confusing to you. As a general rule OTR experience is very important.Don't bother trying to skip gears during a road test. You can play around with that once you get out there. For now, just do it by the book. Start off in 2nd gear, slowly release the clutch until it is fully released, then accelerate.
